EFFECTIVE ADDITION
ADD IN 10X FORMATS
Published in May2021 issue of ‘VEDIC MATH WORLD’ – magazine
INTRODUCTION:
In this column, we would study how to do additions orally as well as accurately. This chapter would show you a non-conventional method of solving summations through Vedic methods. Calculate 56 + 37. Can you answer the given addition question within the fraction of a second? As soon as you read the question, your answer must come i.e. 93! How? So, here we follow the basic observational method of ‘Vedic Math’ which we name as ‘Vilokanam’. Let’s understand it in a detailed way!
SMART TRICK # 1:
‘Add in 10X formats’
Q1:
56 + 37
Here, read 37 as (10+10+10+7).
By adding first ‘10’ into 56, we get 66.
By adding first ‘10’ into 66, we get 76.
By adding first ‘10’ into 76, we get 86.
We are done with adding ‘10’ for 3-times here. Now we are supposed to add ‘7’ into ‘86’. When we add ‘6’ into ‘7’ we get ‘13’. Similarly, by adding ‘7’ into ‘86’ we get ‘93’!
Here, my sincere request to you is to avoid using your hands i.e. sections made on your fingers to mature your understanding about numbers and calculations!
All these things that we share with you, might be seeming very small right now! But, as we shall go ahead with this column in coming issues of ‘VEDIC MATH WORLD’, all these things shall be creating a great impact on your performance! Please remember, it going to be a great learning experience for you! And, this experience is going to be ‘a never before experience’!
Let’s try to solve few more questions with the same understanding!
Q2:
345 + 674
Here, read 345 as (100+100+100+10+10+10+10+5) or (300+40+5). Then, add into 674.
By adding first ‘300’ into 674, we get 974.
By adding first ‘10’ into 974, we get 984.
By adding first ‘10’ into 984, we get 994.
By adding first ‘10’ into 994, we get 1004.
By adding first ‘10’ into 1004, we get 1014.
We are done with adding ‘340’ by now. Now we are supposed to add ‘5’ into ‘1014’ which gives the answer ‘1019’.
Q3:
45 + 72
Here, read 45 as (30+10+5).
By adding first ‘30’ into 72, we get 102.
By adding first ‘10’ into 102, we get 112.
By adding first ‘5’ into 112, we get 117.
So, the answer over here can be calculated in mind as ‘117’ with this method. No need to write anything!
Q4:
83 + 74
Within fraction of a moment, we can understand the answer here becomes 157. The same trick is being used here, added 70 in 83, we receive 153. Then, 4 is still remaining to add into 153. Thus, answer becomes 157!
Q5:
453 + 74
Within fraction of a moment, we can understand the answer here becomes 527. Read 74 here as , (50+20+4). The same trick is being used here, added 50 in 453, we receive 503. Another 20 is added, resulted into 523. Then, 4 is still remaining to add into 523. Thus, answer becomes 527!
Important observation: In Q4, ‘74’ was taken as (70+4), whereas in Q5 it is taken as (50+20+4). Such variations are based on ease of adding numbers on case-to-case basis!
Practice task:
37 + 91
45 + 69
234 + 249
547 + 762
214 + 57
